Carsten works at the conservation research section at the Senckenberg Research Institute and Natural History Museum Frankfurt. His group’s work focusses on the genetic population structure of endangered European wildlife and the development of new molecular tools for genetic wildlife monitoring based on noninvasive samples and eDNA. He closely interacts with conservation managers and NGOs in the frame of long-term monitoring programmes for large carnivores and other species.
